Profession Guide: Legion

Belle Legion Guides 2 Comments

Legion professions bring back the experience of going out into the World, gathering materials and working to improve a skillset to make some money. There are a lot of changes that make professions worth the time that you put into them; Professions recipes now have ranks, which add little enhancements to each profession to make a recipe or ability better. Crafting has also been enhanced with visuals. For example: when crafting a gem, you actually chip away pieces to create a finished product. This really helps with the fantasy of your profession and makes for a more immersive experience.

  • All professions can be learned at the trainers in New Dalaran.
  • All crafting professions are accompanied by World Quests which are unlocked at level 110 and skill level 100. Completing these quests award rare crafting reagents and recipes to increase your crafting rank.
  • The Profession recipe window has received a much needed interface overhaul, making it easier to find the recipe you need.

A live Q&A on Legion Professions was conducted with Warcraft developer Paul Kubit on June 23, 2016. You can read our full summary here.

Crafting Reagents

There are two new crafting components that are important to note outside of the individual professions.

Blood of Sargeras

Blood of Sargeras is Bind on Pickup and will be used in higher level crafted items. It is necessary in tasks, such as increasing the item level of crafted gear along with Obliterum. While it can drop from gathering raw materials in the Broken Isles, you can also get it from disenchanting, dungeons and World Quest.

Obliterum

This will be used for crafted gear, increasing it's item level by 5 points, up to 850. Obliterum is produced by incinerating your Legion crafted gear, which can be done at the Dalaran Forge.

Shoulder Enchants

After taking a hiatus in Warlords of Draenor, shoulder enchants are back with a completely new flavor. As you're questing, these enchants will help you find extra reagents used in crafting professions and are unlocked as faction rewards, so make sure you pick them up after grinding all that rep!

Swapping Professions

In Legion, many of the new profession recipes are learned by completing a one-time quest. In order to swap from one profession to another and back again without losing previously learned Legion recipes, Profession trainers sell the Forgotten Technique tomes.

For example, if you have maxed out Herbalism and swap to Mining, then want to go back to Herbalism, you can do so by returning to the Herbalism trainer and purchasing the respective tome after you have relearned Herbalism. This tome costs 1,000 gold, and will teach you everything you learned before making the switch. Talk about hitting the easy button!

The tomes for each profession:

Inscription: Forgotten Techniques of the Broken Isles

Mining: Forgotten Techniques of the Broken Isles

Skinning: Forgotten Techniques of the Broken Isles

Herbalism: Forgotten Techniques of the Broken Isles

Alchemy: Forgotten Formulas of the Broken Isles

Tailoring: Forgotten Patterns of the Broken Isles

Enchanting: Forgotten Formulas of the Broken Isles

Engineering: Forgotten Schematics of the Broken Isles

Jewelcrafting: Forgotten Designs of the Broken Isles

Leatherworking: Forgotten Patterns of the Broken Isles

Blacksmithing: Forgotten Plans of the Broken Isles

Herbalism

If your goal is to cap you herbalism skill as fast as possible, it is recommend that you have Herbalism at 700 before attempting Legion farming. Pandaria and WoD maps, along with your flying abilities, will make it easy to get to 700. Then, start in Azsuna, which is the zone with the most herb spawns for quick skill cap to 800.

  • Herb gathering will grant 1 skill point per herb node
  • Herb nodes are shared among all players
  • Skills 795-800 will come from the Felwort World Quest, which could appear on your map of the Broken Isles on any given week. You will need to be at least 100 skill level and level 110 to see this quest.
  • Legion professions include a Rank system, which is outlined below. In order to improve your rank in an ability or to craft an item more efficiently, quests will drop randomly from gathering herbs.
  • Rank 2 and above in each herb skill has the chance to drop Blood of Sargeras, which is used in all crafting professions in Legion.

Fishing Reputation

Nat Pagle as been replaced with a new bestie: Conjurer Margoss will be the new fishing Quartermaster for mounts, bobbers and a lure. You can find him in the northern part of Dalaran, on the floating island near the pet battle area (use a goblin glider to get to him easily). Just like Nat, you will be able to befriend him, farm his currency- Drowned Mana, and buy helpful items from him.

Fishing Artifact Weapon: Underlight Angler

Wow-underlight-angler

There are 3 things needed in order to get this artifact weapon:

For the achievement, you need to catch all 18 of the rare fish listed above. This achievement is going to be very long and challenging so grab a few cold Dark Brew Lagers, settle in and enjoy the scenery.

Once you have caught all the fish, have a skill level of 800 in fishing you will then need to go to random Legion pools and fish up the Luminous Pearl which will begin the quest you need to begin which will lead to a few more quests to get the artifact weapon.

What you will need to begin:

  • Makes sure you have a good amount of bag space before you begin.
  • You will need to take an inventory of the fish you will need to have to complete the achievement Bigger Fish to Fry. I would track the achievement to make it easy.
  • Have some Arcane Lures on you and use them. Keep in mind this will not give you a guaranteed to get a lure it just increases your chances. You can buy them from Conjurer Margoss on the floating island Northwest of Dalaran. It cost 1 Drowned Mana.
  • Focus on one zone to start. You will want to get the lures for each zone by fishing the pools then use them one by one to get it done and over with quickly.
  • You will also want to have some Oversized Bobber on you as well. You can buy them from the Dalaran fishing vendor.

Here you will find the video guide that I  did to help you get prepped with everything you will need to begin getting the lures you need to obtain the weapon. I did the video as I went thru getting the weapon so it is the most up to date information on the strategy for getting the weapon easily but with a fair amount of spare time.

Cooking

The joy of cooking is back! One of the most notable things added to Legion cooking is the addition of our beloved Bacon. Most of the recipes in The Broken Isles will not grant skill increases for cooking them, so leveling Cooking from skill 1 will be difficult. You will need the The Joy of Draenor Cooking to craft  food which grant skill ups, but the item is a random drop, so if you're in a hurry, these may not be the most efficient method to level your cooking skill.  Pandaria cooking can easily get you from 1 to 525, then, continue your repertoire in WoD until you are 700.

  • As with all skills in Legion, you will gain ranks for each recipe, which will yield more of that item being cooked.  Recipe ranks are unlocked from Work Order discoveries.
  • The quality and benefits of food you can make is broken down from snacks up to feasts.
  • Gathering Professions, such as Fishing and Skinning, are especially helpful for supplying yourself with ingredients for Cooking.
  • You will complete work orders with Nomi in the New Dalaran (40, 65) kitchen to learn your recipes.
  • Recipes will also drop in the world and from quests.

First Aid

First Aid, while adding a few new items, such as bandages, this profession still seems to be a bit of an afterthought in game. Not much focus will be needed to max this out. Since mobs scale to your level on The Broken Isles, there will still be uses for First Aid items to keep you alive while plowing through content. While questing throughout the Broken Isles, there will be wounded NPCs that you can heal, which will grant you the achievement  Field Medic and the title Field Medic.

There have been some changes to this profession that really make Archaeology a bit less grindy. With Dalaran being the hub for all professions in Legion, you will spend your time there for training and grabbing quests that you need. There is even a spot on the wall for you to show off your Pristine Artifacts.

  • The dig sites are smaller and do not span large areas as they did previously
  • All the digsites will be visible at once
  • New visuals! When you enter a dig site, a shovel will pop-up over your head
  • Each of the 3 digsite on Broken Isles will have 9 areas
  • 1 skill point is awarded for each of the 9 areas
  • 5 skill points are awarded for solving common quality artifacts

If you're just starting out with Archaeology, this profession can be learned by visiting Dariness the Learned in New Dalaran. Once you're out in The Broken Isles, look out for Excavator's Notebook to drop from a digsite- this item will allow you to increase your Archaeology skill up to 800 without returning to a trainer.

Once you reach 110, Dariness the Learned will offer you a quest that grants one Rare-quality solve. In Legion, all Rare Archaeology solves are granted through quest rewards.

The nice thing about Alchemy is you do not need to level this profession outside of Legion. Alchemy uses of a lot of herbs, so taking Herbalism as your second profession is a good idea. You can always buy herbs from the auction house if you do not want to farm the mats, but that can be expensive, especially early in this expansion.

  • Transmutations and Flasks will provide the easiest method to level Alchemy
  • Reagents from other professions (Ores, Skins, Fish, Cloth) can be transmuted into new ones, so an Alchemist is good to have on hand if you find yourself with a surplus of materials
  • The Alchemy Table will be needed for crafting and is located near your trainer in new Dalaran
  • You will need to be skill level 100 and level 110 to unlock the World Quests for Alchemy

Scribes need a steady supply of Legion herbs to craft their reagents, so the Herbalism profession works well with Inscription.

Reagents
Inks
  • Roseate Pigment
    • This is the most common and is received by milling all the Broken Isle Herbs
  • Sallow Pigment

Mass Milling

You can begin mass milling at level 108 from the quest Mass Milling Techniques. Milling each herb individually has the chance to randomly create an item that will allow you to perform Mass Milling on that same herb.
