NEW HERO: AURIEL

It is through the archangel Auriel that the power of hope flows into the fabric of creation. Her eternal light illuminates even the darkest souls. Seeking harmony in all things, she is a mediator, a counselor, and when the need arises, a fearless warrior.

Trait

  • Bestow Hope (D)
    • Activate to bestow an allied Hero with Hope. Damage that Hero deals while they are nearby will cause you to store Energy. Bestow Hope can only be active on one Hero at a time.
    • Passive: 40% of the damage you deal to Heroes and 8% of your damage dealt to non-Heroes is stored as Energy.

Basic Abilities

  • Sacred Sweep (Q)
    • Damages enemies in a wide arc and deals bonus damage to enemies caught in the center.
  • Ray of Hope (W)
    • Consume all of your stored Energy to Heal allied Heroes in the target area. The amount of Healing done is based on the amount of Energy spent.
  • Detainment Strike (E)
    • Deals damage to the first enemy Hero struck and knocks them back. If the target collides with terrain, they are also Stunned for 1.25 seconds and take additional damage.

Heroic Abilities

  • Crystal Aegis (R)
    • Place an allied Hero into Stasis for 2 seconds. Upon expiration, Crystal Aegis explodes, damaging nearby enemies.
  • Resurrect (R)
    • Allied Heroes leave behind a spirit on death. Channel on a spirit for 3 seconds to bring that ally back to life with 50% of their maximum Health at their death location.

BUG FIXES

General

  • Collision: Heroes can no longer push Neutral and Enemy Mercenaries by walking into them.
  • Mac: Fixed an issue that could cause the game client to crash while using Network Link Conditioner.
  • Corrected a number of typos and tooltip errors across several aspects of the game.

AI

  • Abathur: AI that has taken over Abathur after the controlling players leaves the game will no longer use Hearthstone while Symbiote is active on another Hero.
  • Medivh: AI Medivh will no longer attempt to gank an enemy Hero who is in the opposing Hall of Storms.
  • Error messages will no longer display when an AI Rexxar or Uther spawn in-game.

Art

  • Falstad: The landing indicator for Falstad’s Flight will no longer appear cut off when flying long distances.
  • Nova: The Novazon skin will now properly throw a Javelin when casting Snipe.

Battlegrounds

  • Battlefield of Eternity: Enemy Heroes are no longer visible while inside the Vent located just below the Hell side’s center Gate.
  • Dragon Shire: The tooltip for the Dragon Knight’s Rubble Maker Trait no longer incorrectly states that it reduces the duration of Silence effects.
  • Garden of Terror: Fixed an issue which prevented the Garden Terror’s Overgrowth from being cast if its area of effect would overlap with the opposing team’s Hall of Storms.
  • Towers of Doom: Fixed an issue in which some Summons, such as Arthas’ Ghouls, would not teleport with the Hero after using the Tunnel.
  • Try Mode: Zagara’s Infest Talent will no longer continue to affect Minions after clicking Reset Talents.

Heroes and Talents

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the player to lose selection of their Hero on death under certain circumstances.
  • Brightwing: Phase Shield now properly applies a Shield to targets under the effect of Abathur’s Symbiote.
  • Chromie: Temporal Loop can no longer return its target to areas of terrain that are not walkable. The target will instead be placed as close as possible to their original location.
  • Dehaka: Polymorph will no longer remove the effects of Dark Swarm.
  • Gazlowe: The Engine Gunk Talent now correctly causes Rock-It! Turret attacks to Slow enemy Movement Speed.
  • Greymane: Will no longer appear to slide at the end of Darkflight if the target moves out of maximum range as Greymane begins to leap.
  • Greymane: Go for the Throat Damage bonuses earned via the Unleashed Talent will now stack properly.
  • Gul’dan: The tooltip for the Consume Soul Activated Talent now properly lists that it stores up to 2 charges.
  • Gul’dan: Bonus Ability Power granted through the Darkness Within Talent will now correctly apply to all ticks of Drain Life Healing.
  • Gul’dan: Horrify’s Fear effect will now correctly be paused when enemies hit by the Ability enter Zeratul’s Void Prison.
  • Gul’dan: Heroes affected by Horrify will now properly run directly from the center of the cast into nearby Gates and Towers, rather than attempt to path around them.
  • Kael’thas: The visual effects displayed upon completing the Mana Addict Talent Quest will now correctly appear after gathering 20 Regeneration Globes, rather than 25.
  • Kerrigan: Assimilation will now properly grant Shields for splash damage dealt by Kerrigan’s Basic Attacks after learning Fury of the Swarm.
  • Leoric: The tooltip for Drain Essence now correctly states that it Heals up to 12.5% of maximum Health, rather than 10%.
  • Leoric: The Drain Hope effect applied by the Death March Talent no longer deals less damage than intended.
  • Lunara: Abolish Magic will now correctly reduce the duration of Fear, Root, Silence, Slow, and Stun effects after it is self-cast.
  • Nazeebo: Stomp will no longer be placed on cooldown while the Garagantuan is in Stasis.
  • Nazeebo: The player will no longer receive a Stasis overlay when Nazeebo’s Gargantuan is affected by Zagara’s Devouring Maw.
  • Rehgar: The Stormcaller Talent’s Mana restoration effect will now apply to all active Lightning Shields, rather than only the most recent cast.
  • Rexxar: Misha, Focus! Can now be cast when Rexxar, Misha, or both are Polymorphed. This should prevent situations in which Medivh’s Polybomb could cause Rexxar and Misha to become polymorphed indefinitely.
  • Sylvanas: Possession can no longer be cast on Doubloon Chests.
  • Sylvanas: Mind Control’s visual effects will no longer stretch across the Battleground, and Sylvanas will no longer attempt to chase Gul’dan if he uses Teleport to Demonic Circle during Mind Control’s casting time.
  • Zagara: The charge cooldown for Baneling Barrage will no longer be paused while inside of a Nydus Worm.
  • Zagara: Roaches, Hydralisks, and Mutalisks will no longer receive Healing while they are on Creep.
  • Zagara: Casting Cleanse on an allied Hero as they are being pulled into Devouring Maw will no longer allow them to escape.

Sound

  • Shop: Voiceover that plays on purchasing Gul’dan will no longer be cut short in the Taiwanese client.

User Interface

  • Draft Mode: The Browse All Heroes button will no longer fly in diagonally from the upper-left.
  • Draft Mode: The blue team’s background glow will no longer change to gray after locking in a Hero.
  • Hotkeys: Rebinding an Ability hotkey to the Left Mouse Button will no longer prevent that Ability from being cast using the Left Mouse Button.
  • Hotkeys: Rebinding the Chat hotkey will no longer add the character associated with that key to the chat field.
  • In-Game: Many Questing Talents will now properly appear and track progress in the Buff bar found below the in-game Hero Portrait.
  • Loading Screen: Fixed an issue that caused certain Loading Screen tips to list incorrect hotkeys.
  • Menus: Players can now leave Custom Games by choosing Quit or Exit to Desktop.
  • Menus: Players in a party will no longer be forced to Exit to Desktop in order to leave games against the AI.
  • Menus: The Veteran Challenge Welcome pane is no longer missing a portion of its background art on Low graphic settings.
  • Profile: Individual Hero Stat pages, accessed via the Hero Collection, will now list lifetime rather than per-Season stats for the selected Hero.
  • Profile: Preseason stats on the Statistics tab will now display the highest Rank that player reached during Preseason play, even if that player’s highest rank was achieved prior to the rank reset in August 2015.
  • Profile: Fixed an issue in which the player’s total ranked points or Grand Master ranking, located in the Ranked Play section of the Profile Summary tab, could mismatch the player’s current standing.
  • Profile: Fixed an issue in which a lock icon rather than the appropriate league badge could display in the Ranked Play section of a player’s Profile Summary tab under certain circumstances.
  • Quick Cast: Activating an Ability’s targeting reticle will no longer prevent casting that Ability using Quick Cast.
  • Rejoin: The rejoin prompt will no longer temporarily persist after declining to rejoin a game.
  • Rejoin: Five-player parties who quit a Versus AI game will no longer be forced to rejoin that game.
  • Shop: Heroic Ability hotkey icons are now properly aligned on About pages in the Shop.

  • Tyrael: It is no longer possible to deal damage with Basic Abilities while in Archangel's Wrath after choosing the Even in Death talent.

30 Free Heroes in Training and Single Player Versus AI

  • All players will have access to an extended free-to-play Hero roster in Training and Single Player Versus AI games, which contain the first 30 Heroes to enter the Nexus.
  • These extended free-to-play Hero roster in Training and Single Player Versus AI games will last until the week of August 23.

Auto-Select Bonus XP

  • Playing as Auto-Select in Quick Match will now award 100% bonus XP when the matchmaking system detects lengthy queue times for 1 or more Heroes.
    • A new icon will display over the Auto-Select portrait during Hero Select when bonus XP is available.

New portrait rewards have been added!

  • Terran Front-Line Portrait – Awarded for reaching level 10 with Nova, Lt. Morales, and Sgt. Hammer.
  • Legacy of the Void Portrait – Awarded for owning a copy of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void.

NEW HERO: GUL'DAN

Gul’dan, Darkness Incarnate, has been added to Heroes of the Storm and is now available for play! Read on for a brief overview of his abilities.

  • Life Tap (D)
    • Gul’dan does not regenerate Mana.
    • Activate to sacrifice a portion of your Health, restoring 25% of your maximum Mana.

Basic Abilities

  • Fel Flame (Q)
    • Release a wave of flame that damages each enemy it passes through.
  • Drain Life (W)
    • Drain the life from an enemy over 3 seconds, dealing damage to the target and healing Gul’dan each second while channeling.
  • Corruption (E)
    • Call forth three bursts of shadow energy in a line, which deal damage to each enemy they strike over 6 seconds. Stacks up to 3 times.

Heroic Abilities

  • Horrify (R)
    • After a short delay, deal damage and Fear all enemy Heroes in the area for 2 seconds.
  • Rain of Destruction (R)
    • Summon a rain of meteors in a large area for 7 seconds. Each meteor deals a damage in a small area.

PERFORMANCE AND GRAPHICS

General

  • Various performance improvements have been made which should positively affect overall frame-rates.
  • Heroes of the Storm now supports Direct X 11
    • This should help to reduce memory usage, increase performance while the game is not the primary focus window, and allow for further optimization improvements in the future.

Battlegrounds

  • Cursed Hollow
    • Various environmental objects have been optimized to use less processor time. These changes will benefit processor constrained systems.
  • Towers of Doom
    • Fixed an issue in which environmental sounds could be over-created, causing drops in processor performance.

Processor Performance Notification

  • A new performance icon (pictured below) has been added that will display in the upper-left corner of the screen when Heroes of the Storm detects that the computer’s processor is not performing optimally.

General

  • Visual effects for Movement Speed buffs have received additional polish, and will better indicate whether a Movement Speed buff is greater or less than 25%.
  • Visual effects for Movement Speed Slows have received additional polish, and will better indicate whether a Slow is greater or less than 40%.

  • Murky has received a delicious new Hearthstone (B) animation!
  • New button art has been added for the Bribe Talent.

USER INTERFACE

    • Hover the cursor over the Breaking News icon to display details about these announcements.
  • A notification will also be displayed on the Home Screen whenever a Breaking News post is active.

In-Game UI

    • Left-clicks can now be issued through all in-game UI elements while the cursor is in targeting mode.
  • Minimap
    • Healing Wells will now display on the minimap in the form of plus “+” icons, until they are destroyed.

Loading Screens

Rejoin

  • Rejoin is now optional for Training, Single Player Versus AI, and Custom Games. Simply hit the “Nope!” button when prompted to Rejoin.

      • Battlefield of Eternity: AI Heroes can now halt their attacks on Immortals at the center of the Battleground in order to gank an enemy Sgt. Hammer that is attacking inner-Towers and Keeps.
      • Infernal Shrines: Punishers will no longer prefer to attack non-Heroic enemies that are affected by Abathur’s Symbiote over enemy Heroes.
      • Dragon Shire: The Dragon Knight’s Savage Charge can no longer be cast on neutral Siege and Bruiser Mercenaries.
      • Tomb of the Spider Queen: The Top-lane Keep on the left side of the Battleground can no longer attack enemies who are standing next to the Gate.
      • Tomb of the Spider Queen: The number of Spider Gems held by each team will now always display, even if zero Gems are currently being carried.

      Heroes and Talents

      • Anub'arak: Bed of Barbs will now properly apply damage over time effects to enemy Immortals on Battlefield of Eternity.
      • Artanis: Fixed a rare issue in which an enemy who is killed in the same moment as they are struck by Phase Prism could cause Artanis to fly to the target’s death location.
      • Cho’gall: Runic Blast’s traveling and end-point area of effect indicators will now display appropriately for Gall, and will no longer display for Cho.
      • Dehaka: Drag will now properly interrupt Tychus if he is struck while attempting to cast Grenade.
      • Executioner: This Talent will no longer deal bonus damage to Structures affected by Sylvanas’ Black Arrow.
      • Falstad: Will no longer be struck by ground-level objects, such as Abathur’s Toxic Nests, while using Flight.
      • Illidan: Issuing an attack command on an enemy while using Sweeping Strike in the opposite direction will now always cause Illidan to travel the full Sweeping Strike distance, both before and after learning the Unbound Talent.
      • Jaina: Casting Blizzard while hidden within a Shrub will no longer prevent players who are outside that shrub from seeing its visual effects.
      • Kael’thas: Fixed an issue which prevented Phoenix from being self-cast using ALT + R.
        Kael’thas: AI Kael'thas will now properly receive a reduced cooldown timer after cancelling Pyroblast.
      • Kharazim: Fixed a rare issue in which movement commands could persist after casting Radiant Dash.
      • Leoric: Fixed a visual issue in which the Reanimation Talent’s Quest could appear incomplete despite satisfying all requirements for completion.
      • Lunara: Leaping Strike can now properly damage enemy Structures after learning the Boundless Stride Talent.
      • Lunara: Landing against the terrain after casting Leaping Strike will no longer occasionally cause Lunara to run back to her original location.
      • Lunara: Forts and Keeps will now properly fire on a Wisp that it is just inside attack range.
      • Medivh: Fixed an issue which caused allies to see Portal’s range indicator after learning the Portal Mastery Talent.
      • Nova: The buff icon for the Snipe Master Talent will now properly display in the buff bar.
      • Nova: Holo Decoys can now use Basic Attacks against enemy Monsters and Mercenaries. After taking the Lethal Decoy Talent, Holo Decoys will also be able to use Basic Attacks against enemy Minions.
      • Nova: Will no longer receive an Invulnerability overlay on-screen if a Holo Decoy is affected by Tyrael’s Sanctification, but Nova herself is outside its area of effect.
      • Nova: Triple Tap’s visual effects will no longer persist during an enemy Hero’s post-death effect, such as Tyrael’s Archangel’s Wrath.
      • Rehgar: Ancestral Healing will now properly restore Health to Artanis and Johanna if the target takes lethal damage in the same moment that Shield Overload or Indestructible is triggered.
      • Sgt. Hammer: The targeting reticule for Blunt Force Gun will no longer highlight targets that are outside its area of effect.
      • Sgt. Hammer: Enemy AI players will no longer immediately dive Sgt. Hammer if she enters Siege Mode while hidden in a Shrub or Vent.
      • Stitches: Hook will now properly pull its target over unpathable areas of terrain, even if the enemy it strikes had been launched by another Ability.
      • Tracer: Fixed an issue that could cause Pulse Bomb to launch in an unintended direction when casting Blink while Pulse Bomb is firing.
      • Tracer: The Reload bar will now be properly displayed during Recall after learning the Locked and Loaded Talent.
      • Tracer: Will no longer continually face her Basic Attack target while Polymorphed.
      • Tracer: The Composition B Talent can no longer be triggered by sticking non-Heroic targets.
      • Tracer: The “Lock On” icon next to Tracer’s status bar will now appear to the left of icons for Battleground Mechanics that can be held, such as Spider Gems and Doubloons.
      • Tychus: After learning the Sizzlin’ Attacks Talent, Basic Attacks will now properly deal 3% of the target’s maximum Health as damage while Minigun is active.
      • Tyrael: Casting Judgement on an enemy just as the target is killed will no longer teleport Tyrael to the enemy safe zone.
      • Tyrael:  The duration bar for El’Druin’s Might can no longer display during Archangel’s Wrath.
      • Tyrande: Picking the Celestial Wrath Talent will no longer prevent Starfall’s cooldown timer from displaying appropriately on the in-game Score Screen’s Talent pane.
      • Uther: Can no longer use Healing Wells while in Eternal Devotion form.
      • Valla: Using Rain of Vengeance to score a killing blow on Tyrael or Uther will no longer cause an extraordinarily long respawn timer to appear while in Eternal Devotion or Archangel’s Wrath form.
      • Zagara: Enemy Heroes who are not caught by Devouring Maw can no longer walk through the Maw while it is emerging from the terrain.
      • Zagara: Fixed an issue that could allow Creep Tumors to be placed in unintended areas with Quick Cast or On Release settings enabled.
      • Zeratul: Casting Blink and Rewind in rapid succession will no longer place Blink on a 2 second cooldown while Wormhole is active.
      • Zeratul: Void Prison will now properly interrupt Flying Kick if the target moves too far out of range while Chen is in Stasis.

      Sound

      • Fixed an issue which prevented Heroes from playing their “Pissed” voiceover lines after being repeatedly clicked.
      • Anub’arak: Voiceover will now play properly while idling on Anub’arak’s Hero page in the Shop.
      • Azmodan/Kharazim: Fixed an issue that prevented Azmodan and Kharazim from playing certain voiceover lines after killing an enemy Hero.
      • Gazlowe: The music associated with Big Top Gazlowe’s dance animation will play appropriately while in Robo-Goblin form.
      • Tracer: The Blink recharge sound effect will now only play for the Tracer player.

      User Interface

The next Heroes of the Storm patch has just arrived to the Public Test Realm it will be available for playtesting until June 13. This PTR's main focus is on our new ranked play experience. To help ensure that these new systems receive adequate attention during this testing phase Blizzard has disabled all modes besides "Ranked" and "Custom Games". All heroes, with the exception of Medivh, will be unlocked for testing.

NEW HERO: MEDIVH

Medivh, The Last Guardian, has been added to Heroes of the Storm and is now available for play! Read on for a brief overview of his Abilities.

Trait (Z)

  • Raven Form 

    Instead of Mounting, Medivh can transform into a raven, increasing Movement Speed by 15%. While transformed, you can see and fly over all terrain, and are immune to all effects. Casting an Ability immediately transforms you out of Raven Form.

Basic Abilities

  • Arcane Rift (Q) 

    Launch a rift that damages all enemies in its path. If an enemy Hero is hit, Arcane Rift’s cooldown is reduced by 5 seconds and 30 Mana is refunded.

  • Force of Will (W) 

    Protect an allied Hero from all damage for 1.5 seconds.

  • Portal (E) 

    Create a set of portals between you and the target location, allowing allies to teleport between them. Portals last 6 seconds.

Heroic Abilities

  • Poly Bomb (R) 

    Polymorph an enemy Hero, suppressing their attacks and Silencing them for 2 seconds. On expiration, Poly Bomb spreads to other nearby enemy Heroes.

  • Ley Line Seal (R) 

    After 0.5 seconds, unleash a wave of energy that imprisons enemy Heroes in Stasis for 3 seconds.

Training Mode

  • AFK Detection has been added to Training Mode games.

Veteran Introduction

  • A new Veteran-level Tutorial has been introduced to the game. 

    The new Veteran tutorial can be accessed through the “Challenges” button in the options menu, or by selecting “Veteran” when first entering the game on a new account.

 

SYSTEM CHANGES

Matchmaking

MMR Normalization

  • MMRs have been normalized to bring in outliers on both the high and low end of the MMR spectrum.
  • This change should result in faster queue times in all games modes for players at either end of the spectrum without sacrificing match quality.

MMR Seeding

  • Players entering Hero League for the first time in Season One will have their Quick Match MMR used as a guideline to determine their initial matchmaking.
  • Future seasons will use Unranked Draft Mode MMR to seed into Hero League matchmaking.
  • Team League incorporates a similar system, using a portion of each players Hero League MMR to find an average before matching them appropriately.
  • Players entering Unranked Draft Mode for the first time will also use their Quick Match MMR as a guideline to determine initial matchmaking.

Performance

  • Significant improvements have been made to the stability of the framerate in all game modes.
  • Improvements have been made to game performance in Versus A.I. games.

General

  • A clock has been added to the Home Screen.

New Play Mode: Unranked Draft

  • Unranked Draft is a new game mode that will feature a pick and ban system identical to Hero League.
  • There will be no party size restrictions in this new game mode.
  • Unranked Draft Mode will have its own unique MMR (Matchmaking Rating).
  • Initial Unranked Draft MMR will be seeded from current Quick Match MMR. Find out more about this in the MMR Seeding section under System Changes.

Ranked Play Revamped

  • The ranking system in Heroes of the Storm has received a massive upgrade, and is now divided into League Tiers and Divisions, rather than 50 Ranks.
  • There are seven League Tiers in total: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Grand Master. Progress through each League Tier can be tracked as follows:
  • Bronze – Diamond: Players are split into one of five Divisions within a League Tier. Earn Ranked Points by winning games to progress from Division 5 to 1 in each of these League Tiers.
  • Master: Instead of Divisions, Master League displays the total number of Ranked Points earned, so that players can more easily track progress against others in Master League.
  • Grand Master: Only the top 500 players in each region will achieve Grand Master status. Grand Master League Badges will display that player’s rank within the top 500 for that region.
  • Play 10 Placement Matches in Hero or Team League to receive a League and Division Placement.
  • For Example: Depending on a player’s performance during placement matches, they may be placed into Gold 3. By consistently winning games this player can then be promoted through the Divisions within their League Tier, up to Gold 1. Winning enough games will present the player with a Promotion Match, which offers the chance to be promoted into Platinum 5.
  • On the other hand, consistently losing games will result in demotion through the Divisions, down to Gold 5. If the player loses enough games, they will similarly be presented with a Demotion Match. By winning this match, the player will retain their standing in Gold 5. By losing, they will be demoted to Silver 1.

  • Chen: The leap distances of the Storm Earth, Fire clones should now be consistent.
  • The Butcher: The cooldown of the Enraged talent now accurately matches the tooltip at 25 seconds.
  • Tyrael: Fixed a bug that caused Archangel’s Wrath to explode immediately in specific situations.
  • Kael’Thas: You are now able to cast the free Empowered Living Bombs when you have less than 50 mana.
  • Cho’Gall: Shadow Bolt Volley can no longer be canceled by right clicking.
  • Tracer: The Pulse Rounds talent should now increase the range and charge rate of Pulse Bomb by the amount stated in the tooltip.
  • Abathur: You can no longer use Hearthstone to port back to base while channeling Ultimate Evolution.
  • The Butcher: Hamstring now deals the correct amount of damage to Heroic targets when both the Cheap Shot and Chop Meat talents are selected.
  • Brightwing: The additional pulses created from the Continuous Winds talents will now properly push back enemy Heroes.
  • Brightwing: Fixed an issue that allowed Brightwing to heal allies with Soothing Mist while dead.
  • Dehaka: Shift queuing a command to use Essence Collection will now correctly heal Dehaka.
  • Sylvanas and Xul: Fixed an issue that made Xul uncontrollable if Sylvanas and Xul cast Mind Control and Bone Prison on each other.
  • Abathur: Fixed an issue that allowed Evolve Monstosity to pick up coins and gems, which were then permanently lost upon death.

User Interface
