After a hectic few months of crazy team disbands, roster swaps, and complete new team overhauls – the first 2016 Fall Heroes of the Storm Qualifier tournament took place on Sunday, July 10th. It determined the first teams to make it to the Heroes Fall Regional – Los Angeles, a $100,000 USD regional tournament that also stands as the qualifier for the Heroes Fall Global Championship. The Championship will take place at Blizzcon 2016 and features a prize pot of $500,000 USD. During this tournament, due to balance issues and exploitable tactics, the following heroes were banned and/or limited:

  • Sonya – Globally banned throughout the tournament
  • Abathur – Banned on Infernal Shrines
  • Dehaka – Banned on Battlefield of Eternity

For map vetoing, a coin toss decided which team was given the first veto with maps being banned alternately until seven maps remained, then out of those seven maps, three are picked alternately in the order that they shall be played. The team that lost the coin toss then proceeds to be given the first hero ban. View the full tournament rules here.

The tournament ended with Crescendo defeating Vox Nihili, and High Score.HotS besting team Peter Dinklage. While both team Crescendo and team High Score seem like unfamiliar names in the massive eSport upon a closer look, both rosters are made up of some of the best teams that Heroes of the Storm had to offer in previous tournaments.

Team Crescendo

  • Mike “Glaurung” Fisk, formerly of Brain Power
  • Keiwan “k1pro” Itakura, formerly of Cloud9
  • John “KingCaffeine” Lopez, formerly of Cloud9
  • Francis “MATRE” Gilbert-Brodeur, formerly of Team Name Change
  • Kyle “Prismaticism” Belaiche, formerly of Team Name Change

Team High Score

  • Kayla “Faye” Murray, formerly of Brain Power
  • Jeffrey “iakona” Dolan, formerly of Brain Power
  • Quinn “Srey” Fischer, formerly of Brain Power
  • Jason “Jason” Mei, formerly of Panda Global
  • Stafford “McIntyre” McIntyre, formerly of Team Naventic

Both Crescendo and High Score join Gale Force eSports and Team Naventic as the first four teams to qualify for the Heroes Fall Regional Championship – Los Angeles, taking place August 5th-7th. The second Heroes Fall Regional will take place on Sunday, July 17th, at 13:00 EDT.
