In a pair of videos released today, Blizzard announced the newest hero to be added to Overwatch, Doomfist. The new hero, who has been teased since Overwatch’s original cinematic, has been slowly hyped since before the announcement of Orisa, with Orisa’s construction being directly tied to that event. Fans have been eagerly waiting for Doomfist’s announcement after a blog post earlier this week, teasing the hero’s imminent release.
Doomfist gets a stellar animated introduction, which is the most detailed animated origin story for a new hero so far, while also deviating from the style of the previous Overwatch Shorts.
Blizzard also released a new Developer Video, where Lead Designer Jeff Kaplan explains the hero’s design.
Doomfist’s ability set focuses heavily on melee combat, and while the hero has a ranged attack, Hand Cannon, that ability is limited by ammunition that is slowly regenerated over time. Doomfist’s design seems heavily interested in using melee combos to devastate opponents. He has three unique melee attacks, Seismic Slam, Rising Uppercut and Rocket Punch, which can be comboed together. His passive, The Best Defense, generates a shield for Doomfist as he deals damage with abilities, making the hero become more resilient as he deals damage. His ultimate, Meteor Strike, has Doomfist jump into the air before landing on an area, dealing damage and stunning opponents. Read up on the details about Doomfist on his official hero page.
Doomfist is live on the Overwatch Player Test Region now, so try him out!
