Converting Apexis Crystals into Gold

If you're like me, you have tons of extra Apexis Crystals just sitting in your currency tab. You might use yours for baleful upgrade tokens or for your weekly seals, but here's an easy way to convert your crystals into gold!

There are 8 pets available for purchase from Draenor reputation vendors – 4 neutral, 2 Alliance-only, and 2 Horde-only. In order to purchase these pets and start flipping them, you'll first need to grind out a revered reputation with each respective faction. This is the biggest time sink, but it is certainly a worthwhile investment! If you have the Draenor Pathfinder achievement needed for flying, chances are that you will already be revered with a few of the factions.

Each pet has an initial price of 1000 gold and 2000 apexis crystals. Note that the gold price will decrease due to reputation discounts. As long as you sell each pet for more than the initial gold investment price, you will essentially be converting your unused apexis crystals into profit!

The items themselves are BOP, but after buying them from the vendor, you can learn each pet by right clicking in your inventory. Next, open up the pets menu, right click the pet, and select "cage". Now you will be able to sell the caged pet via the auction house or trade window. Below is a list of all the WoD reputation pets to sell:

ALLIANCE:
  • Draenei Micro Defender can be purchased from Vindicator Nuurem located at 47, 76 in Stormshield. This pet requires that you are revered with Council of Exarchs and the initial cost is 1000 gold & 2000 apexis crystals. This pet does well in pet battles and as a result tends to sell at a higher price on the auction house.
  • Sky Fry can be purchased from Maaria at your level 2 trading post in your garrison. This pet requires that you are revered with Sha'tari Defense and the initial cost is 1000 gold & 2000 apexis crystals. The reputation grind for this pet is incredibly dull and not all players even have a trading post to access this reputation. As a result, this pet tends to sell at a higher price on the auction house.
HORDE:
  • Frostwolf Pup can be purchased from Beska Redtusk located at 54, 62 in Warspear. This pet requires that your are revered with Frostwolf Orcs and the initial cost is 1000 gold & 2000 apexis crystals. This pet does well in pet battles and as a result tends to sell at a higher price on the auction house.
  • Bone Wasp can be purchased from Kil'rip at your level 2 trading post in your garrison. This pet requires that you are revered with Laughing Skull Orcs and the initial cost is 1000 gold & 2000 apexis crystals. The reputation grind for this pet is incredibly dull and not all players even have a trading post to access this reputation. As a result, this pet tends to sell at a higher price on the auction house.
NEUTRAL

Most of these pets can fetch a pretty penny on the auction house! I use TSM to keep one of each pet listed at all times, and I always have some in reserve on my bank alt. Depending on your server's market price, they can sell anywhere from a few hundred to tens of thousands of gold.

Currently, there is not much demand for these pets, mostly because the hardcore collectors have already obtained them earlier in the expansion. Every now and then I’m able to sell a few, but I’m really hopeful for Legion. With the influx of new or returning players, my guess is that the demand for unique pets will go up, and the amount of players willing to farm the reputations or do WoD content for apexis crystals will go down.

For specifics on your realm’s market price for each pet, be sure to check beforehand using a tool such as The Undermine Journal.
